TITLE - Anarchy Champion

XWF FanBase:
Some of everyone

(cheered; very rarely plays dirty but isn't lame either; many likable qualities)

Location: Nashville, Tennessee.

Furry came to Nashville early to scout the location of her next title defense. The rules are simple enough. First person to leave the entertainment district with the Anarchy Championship wins.

She's recording a little something for her opponents while she walks.

And then some guy backs out of a bar without looking and walks right into her injured shoulder.

"OW! Hey! Watch where you're going!"

Furry waits for the pain to settle before turning her attention back to the camera. The black eye Charlie Nickles gave her is still there, but faded.

"Well, at least that one was an accident...

Last time you saw me, I was talking about breaking the record for the longest Anarchy Championship reign. I went through the curtain feeling pretty pleased with myself. Then Charlie Nickles sent me right back through it.

He kicked, stomped, and bounced me off the entrance stage. My championship was sitting right there. Didn't even touch it. He wasn't interested.

I was so busy looking ahead I wasn't watching my surroundings. Stupid. I'd rather not do that twice.

And now I've got two people who actually DO want my championship.

Deacon, you and Vita just went through that whole nightmare looking for the Anarchy Tag Championships. Survived Freddy Krueger, found the belts, and after all that, neither of you left with one.

Roger did.

Now you get another treasure hunt. Only this time, I'm the one with the claws, and I'm not gonna be standing there waiting for you to pick it up.

You and Vita knew those championships were a trap. You even said so! 'Obviously,' I believe was your exact word.

But when you finally reached the belts, what did you do? You reached for them anyway! Vita had to grab your wrist to stop you.

And I don't blame you for going down those stairs. You had to find the championships somehow.

But Deacon, there's a difference between walking into a trap because you have to and leaping right into one because you can't help yourself."

A guy in a cowboy hat has stopped beside her. He's holding a pink drink and looking at her championship.

"Is that real gold? Can I hold it?"

"I'd rather you didn't."

He touches it anyway.

Furry grabs his wrist, but he jerks away, spilling half his drink down the front of her shirt. The championship slips off her shoulder and hits the sidewalk.

"HEY! What the hell's wrong with you?"

"ME? You're the one who grabbed me!"

"You assaulted me!"

Now people are looking. Somebody's recording on their phone. The guy's getting louder, too.

Furry starts toward him, but stops when she notices a woman bending down to examine her championship.

"Oh! No, no, no. That's mine, thank you!"

She retrieves the belt. The cowboy is still running his mouth, telling everybody she's crazy.

Furry considers going back to straighten him out. Instead, she walks away.

"Wonderful. Twenty minutes in and I've already been assaulted by a strawberry margarita.

I could've spent the next ten arguing with that guy. Maybe even knocked him on his backside.

And while I was busy doing that, somebody else could've walked off with my championship.

You had Vita to stop you from making a dumb mistake. I've got nobody... and this time, neither do you."

A bachelorette party comes down the sidewalk in matching pink cowboy hats. One spots Furry.

"OH MY GOD! ARE YOU A CAT?"

"No... I'm a giraffe."

"OH MY GOD! I KNEW IT!"

They wander away, thrilled with themselves.

"Well. Good for them.

Speaking of people who think they've got everything figured out. Librarian!

I watched your match with Razor Blade. Listened to what you said about him, too. You knew how his story ended before you'd even read it.

Predictable.

Then he hit the Blade Rose, stuffed you in a body bag, and nearly zipped it shut.

Didn't see that chapter coming, huh?

Guess not, because Jamison had to knock a bookshelf over on Razor to save you. And after everything you said about Razor, it's a little embarrassing, to say the least.

Maybe let Jamison do the reading next time?

Bring him to Nashville, too. I'm expecting him. I'd be pretty silly to ignore the man who saved your only victory.

And now, after one match, you're getting a shot at my championship? That's pretty impressive!

For Jamison, I mean."

A crowd spills out of another bar. Furry moves before they surround her.

"Here's what worries me about you two. You can absolutely work together long enough to put me down. I don't like it, but pretending otherwise won't help.

What I don't believe is that you'll help each other all the way out of Nashville. One belt. The moment one of you takes it, the other has a new enemy to contend with.

Look at my match with Centurion. The ladder wound up on the floor, I wound up dangling from the strap like an idiot, and somehow I still got the championship down.

Wasn't exactly how I planned it, but hey, it worked.

And at Relentless, Apathy had her hands on it. I was one mistake from losing it. So I did something about it. Nearly broke both our necks, but it worked.

That's what I know how to do. I look for an opening. If it's there, I take it.

I don't know exactly what's gonna happen in Nashville. Neither do you. That's the Librarian's problem, isn't it? Thinking she already knows how everything's going to end.

Both of you needed someone to save you.

Me? I didn't get saved.

But Charlie DID knock some sense into me.

And as for that record I'm chasing?

Well, I think I've spent enough time worrying about how long I'll be champion.

I'd better concentrate on making sure I remain one."

Furry adjusts the championship on her good shoulder and continues down Broadway.

A few steps later, she glances behind her.

Nobody's following.

Good.
